Headspace Chromatography
Headspace Gas Chromatography is used to analyze both volatiles and semi-volatiles in gas, liquid and solid samples. The sample is typically prepared with a dilution solvent, a matrix modifier, along with available "headspace" in the vial. In this mixture, volatile components extract from their non-volatile counterparts and fill the gas portion of the vial. This gas portion is injected into a GC for further separation.
Headspace Septa Characteristics
Low extractable levels and excellent re-sealing characteristics are but two of the demands placed on Headspace Septa. For standard analyses or in the presence of ketones, straight Butyl or Butyl/PTFE septa may be used; however, if the vial needs to be re-sealed or is subjected to temperatures over 100° C, Silicone/PTFE septa are recommended.
